The image of two bears restricted by all of their finery simultaneously calls into question the cruelty of a human practice and its reciprocal effect on our psyche. In our attempts to bend nature to our whims, we chain ourselves to a creed of materialism and privilege sensation over substance.

Blake’s “mind-forged manacles” are manifest in this cycle of profitable depravity. The full moon, symbol of clarity and balance, illuminates the tears of anthropogenic suffering and the unsustainable precariousness of a society teetering on one leg with its feet shackled.

Created in black pigment ink on paper.
